Work force of July 21, 2005

None of the news made as major headlines but all had the intensity to be on the front-pages of the dailies on 21 July. Police injured around 200 striking workers at Savar EPZ. More to that, injured workers were not attempting to go to the nearby hospitals fearing further police harassment. Over 600 ill fated Bangladesh nationals returned home empty handed from Saudi Arabia. The bodies of seven Bangladeshi workers who died of suffocation in a fire smoke in Saudi Arabia arrived. Situation could have been worst it seems. Police could have killed some workers in Savar, thousands more could have been brought back along and dead bodies could never came o his land. Let us hope and do nothing else that the work force never faces this again. Maybe time has not yet come to realize that work force is one of the most important factors for Bangladesh to grow as a country. Let us wait as we do the hoping at the same time.

Dhada part 3

#1. A man is the owner of a winery who recently passed away. In his will, he left 21 barrels (seven of which are filled with wine, seven of which are half full, and seven of which are empty) to his three sons. However, the wine and barrels must be split so that each son has the same number of full barrels, the same number of half-full barrels, and the same number of empty barrels. Note that there are no measuring devices handy. How can the barrels and wine be evenly divided?

#2. You have three boxes of fruit. One contains just apples, one contains just oranges, and one contains a mixture of both. Each box is labeled -- one says "apples," one says "oranges," and one says "apples and oranges." However, it is known that none of the boxes are labeled correctly. How can you label the boxes correctly if you are only allowed to take and look at just one piece of fruit from just one of the boxes?

#3. You have a jug that holds five gallons, and a jug that holds three gallons. You have no other containers, and there are no markings on the jugs. You need to obtain exactly seven gallons of water from a faucet. How can you do it? Second Problem: You need exactly four gallons. How do you do it?

#4.You have two slow-burning fuses, each of which will burn up in exactly one hour. They are not necessarily of the same length and width as each other, nor even necessarily of uniform width, so you can't measure a half hour by noting when one fuse is half burned. Using these two fuses, how can you measure 45 minutes?

#5. There is a man traveling down a path when he comes to a division in the road. There is a sign that says "One path to Paradise, one path to torture." Standing next to the sign are two men. The two men look exactly the same and one of them always speaks the truth and the other one always lies. The traveling man can ask one of the men one questions. What should he ask to ensure his path to paradise?

#6. You've been sentenced to death in an obscure foreign country which has a strange law. Before the sentence is carried out, two papers -- one with "LIFE" written on it and one with "DEATH" written on it -- are folded up and placed in a hat. You are permitted to pick out one of the papers (without looking), and if you choose the one with "LIFE" written on it, you are set free. Otherwise, the death sentence is carried out. On this occasion, a mean-spirited enemy of yours, bent on your demise, has substituted the paper with "LIFE" written on it with another one with "DEATH" written on it. This person happily informs you of what he has done and that you are doomed to die. You are not permitted to speak to anyone about this misdeed, nor will you have a chance to switch the papers or the hat yourself in time. How will you avoid certain death?

The member replied, "six” and was let in. A second member came to the door and the doorman said, "Six." The member replied, "Three" and was let in. The man thought he had heard enough and walked up to the door. The doorman said,"Ten" and the man replied, "five." But he was not let in. What should have he said?

#4. One rich sheik announced that a race would decide which of his two sons would inherit all his wealth. The sons were to ride their camels to a certain distant city. The son whose camel reached the city last would be given the entire sheik's wealth. The two sons set out on the journey. After several days of aimless wandering, they met and agreed to seek the advice of a Wiseman. After listening to the Wiseman’s advice, the two sons rode the camels as quickly as possible to the designated city. What was it that the Wiseman told the two sons? They did not agree to split the wealth, and their father's declaration would be followed.

#5. A large truck is crossing a bridge 1 mile long. The bridge can only hold 14000 lbs, which is the exact weight of the truck. The truck makes it half way across the bridge and stops. A bird lands on the truck. Does the bridge collapse? Give a reason.

#6. An Old friend of the family left $666,666 to 2 fathers and 2 sons to be split equally. After careful consideration they each happily received $222,222. Why and how was this possible? #

#8. Three men, members of a safari, are captured by cannibals in the jungle. The men are given one chance to escape with their lives. The men are lined up and bound to stakes such that one man can see the backs of the other two, the middle man can see the back of the front man, and the front man can't see anybody. The men are shown five hats, three of which are black and two of which are white. Then the men are blindfolded, and one of the five hats is placed on each man's head. The remaining two hats are hidden away. The blindfolds are removed. The men are told that if just one of the men can guess what hat he's wearing, they may all go free. Time passes. Finally, the front man, who can't see anyone, correctly guesses the color of his hat. What color was it, and how did he guess correctly?
