11 February 1978 – still running!

It's been 28 years! Long time.
I have seen four forms of Governments, Zia’s military rule, Ershad’s military rule, his so-called democratic rule, BNP’s rule and Awami league’s rule. All were great! I am privileged with Khaddo, Bostro, Bashosthan, ShikKha and Chikitsha. Not many of my country do have what I got.

Though it contradicts with my slogan at the top of the blog, I must say I have seen several indicators of improvement of my surroundings. High rise buildings, communication systems & process, education facilities, varieties in the job market, roads & highways – all moved in the positive side. My motherland provided me education, which only 4% of my countryman can achieve. I blew it with low CGPA in my Bachelors and Masters and with second division in HSC. There were attractive jobs all around; I could not fit myself. Despite my personnel failures, I consider my self as a happy human being and wish to remain this way. I do not want to change anything of my life including attitude, exam results (!), believes, religion, wife and my PC.

28 years been great and I wish not to double the number.

January in Review

2006 did not start well for the Muslims.
On 6 January, more than 76 people died from collapse of a hostel in Makkah Saudi Arabia, including few Bangladeshis. Relatives in Bangladesh of the Hazis who went this year passed the month in tension as 362 pilgrims were killed and 600 casualties in a stampede few days latter.

On 16 January President, Iajuddin Ahmed appointed two more commissioners to the Election Commission. This boosted up the controversy over the preparation of fresh voter list and any solution looks impractical at the moment.

In the 2006 Index of Economic Freedom published by the Wall Street Journal and the Heritage Foundation, Bangladesh is ranked 141st among 161 countries. It scored 3.88 points and placed in the third of the four categories, which are free, mostly free, mostly un-free and repressed- in terms of economic freedom. This ranking is the worst among the nations of Saarc. People considering development of Bangladesh by observing inclusion of mobile operators, opening of Bank branches and flood of TV channels miss the picture of the overall country it seems.  http://thedailystar.net/2006/01/06/d6010601055.htm

Several newspapers including Amar Desh and Newage reported that Shayek Abdur Rahman, the supreme leader of the outlawed Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen group (JMB) has been arrested in West Bengal; though there was no official confirmation of it by Bangladesh. It latter came out as a boogy. Bangladeshi security forces on the other hand launched a massive hunt on its western borders on 18 January after an intelligence tip-off that Abdur Rahman was in the region, along with Bangla Bhai but could not grab any of them. Till today both are not in the hands of the security personnel. http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/SP92473.htm

But Delhi police successfully arrested 2 Bangladeshi born terrorists with explosives and detonators, reportedly planning to use for disrupting India's Republic Day celebrations.

On 25 January, in Meherpur, Muslim residents of the area threw 2 bombs at a Kirtan (Hindu devotional songs) after an alleged argument between some local Muslims and kirtan-goers. 1 was dead and 20 were injured in the blast. Muslims showed what they are capable of.

Bangladesh born Islamic militants are making it to International fields. Reports came that Afghan security forces arrested 5 Bangladeshis in Kabul suspected of having relations with al Qaida group. http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2006-02/01/content_4124...

Just at the end of the month, Bangla Link came up with their recent achievement in the dailies, claiming 1825% in customer growth. HOW COME? It’s just been a year in Bangladesh for them. Did they have any stat on 2004? Sheba Telecom’s customer number surly is not a right stat to compare. Any way, exploiting customers is the goal and we will come across this type of awful fact all the year long.
