Is it the first time?
I think it is the first time; the Interim government enlarged its hand to arrest a Jamati Islami politician.
Former Jamaat lawmaker Maulana Shakhawat Hossain was arrested at his residence at Keshabpur. The joint forces picked up Shakhawat Hossain at around 7:45pm on charges of extorting Tk 92 lakh from some local people and taking bribe from a number of lecturers who were provided with jobs at Flight Lt Masud College. The joint forces arrested the Jamaiti, affluent with chapatti, on extortion charges. Why not murder charges? I am sure he did much more bigger crimes than just extorting people.
Why is it that all be elected and selected governments had / have a hidden agenda that ultimately favors this killers. Before any other murder charges being vindicated in Baangladeshi courts, all Jamaitis should be brought under judiciary for their role in 1971.
Please do not insult the land and the nation with filing extortion charges against these people. Treat a killer as a killer. No less than that.

The Bangladesh Poet of Impropriety
The Bangladesh Poet of Impropriety starts doing, what he is BEST of doing – writing poems. This majestic poet expresses his reaction on the current situation of Bangladesh:-
Bangladesh 2007
I am not game to the cheap thrills
making its round as a ‘war on corruption’
nor do I applaud for military drills
and bids by soldiers and sanctimonious politicians
to rescue this beleaguered nation
from whatever ailed it –
ideas for good governance is never the exclusive purview
of the selected or ‘elected’ few,
democracy is only a pretension
a hangover from past dereliction
Our leaders of today and yesterday
or those of the yesterday of the day before
were all but conspirators
who hired Phensydyl soaked agitators
to ‘uphold’ their narrow ‘national cause’
political expediencies
led to dependency
needing only a handful
of men and women intermediaries
to grind this nation to a complete halt
organized mayhems and murders
walked hand in hand
with unseen power brokers
who all too often appeared
on a five minute news slot
their epic infamy on private TV
as straight faced innocent
save their fourteen annas of devilry

Biman
Biman Bangladesh Airlines – Akashe Shantir nir
The vision statement of Biman highly contradicts with the service and attitude it shows to the passengers. Filled by corruption, the airline suffers from an ageing fleet, with some of its long haul aircraft banned in the US and EU member states on safety reasons. In the last couple of months, however, there were attempts to recover Biman from the big mess. Private companies are also coming up with new airlines. Even the ex Biman employees want to fly a private airline. Moreover, they want to use the brand name 'Biman'!
Existing pilots are moving out and joining foreign airlines.
Existing planes get frequently grounded for technical reasons due to its aging fleet which has aircrafts aged between 17 to 29 years, except only two.
Here is one chain e-mail I got couple of years ago:
Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen. This is your Captain Mahmud. Welcoming both seated and standing passengers on board of "Biman".
We apologize for the four-day delay in taking off, it was due to engine problems and a part time job I have in a fast food restaurant in New York. This is flight 707 to Dhaka. Landing there is not guaranteed, but we will end up somewhere in Bangladesh. And, if luck is in our favor, we may even be landing in your village!
Bangladesh Biman has an excellent safety-record. In fact, our safety standards are so high, that even terrorists are afraid to fly with us.
We regret to inform you, that today's in-flight movie will not be shown as we forgot to record it from the television. However, for our movie buffs, we will be flying right next to Emirates Airline, where their movie will be visible from the right side of the cabin window.
If you see water dripping from the top of your head, don't think it is raining outside, it could be AC, that is leaking water and if you notice that you are feeling so hot, that means the AC is not working, please feel free to ask the air hostess for a hand fan (fully manual).
In order to catch important landmarks, we try to fly as close as possible for the best view. If however, we go a little too close, do let us know. Our enthusiastic co-pilot sometimes flies right through the landmark!
Kindly be seated, keep your seat in an upright position for take-off and fasten your seat-belt. For those of you who can't find a seat-belt, kindly fasten your own belt to the arm of your seat. And, for those of you who can't find a seat, do not hesitate to get in touch with a stewardess who will explain how to fasten yourself to your suitcase."
"Thanking you all for choosing "Biman" to fly for the last time".

Caution
If this happens to you, just keep driving. Open your window slightly, put your head out the window for vision and just keep driving; until you reach a crowded place.

06-12 July: week in review
Former finance minister M Saifur Rahman's younger son Shafiur Rahman Babu took lease of 100 acres of government land worth Tk 95 lakh in Srimangal upazila for only Tk 500 to establish a tea estate.
It is so surprising to know that son of the than running finance minister had to spend as much as 500 Taka ($7.2 U.S.). The authorities should have shown some respect to the dude. Anything more than 68.70 taka is over the edge for the son of the man who has no idea about Monga.
Some 200 Biman passengers faced untold sufferings stranded at the Zia International Airport as the flight scheduled to carry them was delayed for 39 hours due to technical glitches.
How immature the passengers are! When will they learn? When? Okay – things might change in a short while when the name of Biman will be transformed to BAL (Bangladesh Airlines Ltd). BAL will uphold a positive image of the country.
O8 July
Former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday said those who are 'hatching' the 'minus two' theory are the enemies of democracy.
Dear madam, YOU are the number one enemy of democracy; despite the fact, that you were quite democratic in having extra marital-relationships.
09 July
Eighty-five year old Manoranjan Roy, who had been sent to jail as he failed to repay a loan taken from the Krishi Unnayan Bank, was released yesterday as Chief of Army Staff General Moeen U Ahmed cleared the poor man's debt.
Thank you Sir for your kindness. I only hope, the money did not come from the state funds.
Denmark thanked Bangladesh government for an ‘excellent cooperation’ for rescuing the kidnapped DANIDA official in Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Tell your stupid employees not to enter the risky regions without protections.
10 July
Former foreign minister Morshed Khan and his family submitted their wealth statements to the Anti-Corruption Commission. Morshed Khan owns immoveable property of Tk 1.42 crore and moveable property of Tk 26.58 lakh while his wife Nasreen Khan has immovable property of Tk 6.4 crore and Tk 86.82 lakh in the form of moveable assets.
Dump me! I thought this guy is rich. He only has 1.42 crore! He is living in Singapore for last three months. R kichu din thakle to shob taka shesh hoye jabe. Bechara! Onnodike, Citycell r Pacific motor’s er malik hoye o matro 1.42 crore! Rasta ghate to police, Rab, Army, secretariat – shobar vehicle dekhi Nissan.
11 July
Bangladesh's military-backed emergency government has arrested 17,000 people as part of its corruption crackdown. Those detained include at least 150 leading politicians, businessmen and bureaucrats.
Amar desher shonar chele ra ache na!
12 July
Sri Lanka skittled Bangladesh for a meager 131 runs in the first innings of the third cricket test.
Yeaa…………… Bangladesh improves. In the second test, they were all-out for 62 runs in the first innings. Big improvements. Double.

Apnar jonno ki aj lucky chilo? Amar ta chilo motamuti
Lucky – Lucky – Lucky
Today is July 7, the 188th day of 2007. There are 177 days left in the year. In short 7/7/7 – three sevens! People who noticed this 30 years ago, also observed 7/7/77 – four sevens.
I heard it couple of years ago that Christians created this lucky seven and unlucky thirteen saga - seven symbolizes the seventh letter of the English alphabet – G (God); and thirteen stands for M (Muhammad). But, Muslims signifies seven as well. According to many believers, there are seven heavens. In Judaism, the seventh heaven is called ‘Araboth’ and is home to the Throne of Glory, which is attended by the Seven Archangels.
I tried to find whether any significant incidents occurred or not on 7th July 1907. Naa – nothing happened apart then some morons getting married. The trend continued this year as well. Good luck dudes.

Joto Dosh Nondo Jhosh
Hundreds of Bangladeshi textile factory owners failed to meet a government deadline to pay the workers even the minimum wage of 25 US dollars a month. Out of 2400 garment factories, 400 were still ignoring the rule as of June 30 - according to the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association. In some factories, workers earn as little as 13 dollars a month. The minimum wage was fixed in 2006 after several deadly protests by the workers, who torched 16 factories and ransacked more than 300 others.
In Bangladesh, judges throw cases for money, bureaucrats sell jobs without hesitations, journalists blackmail general people, businessmen run strong-arm cartels, yet they all blame only the politicians for turning the country into a failed state!
Garments Sector -May 2006 write-up.
