Is August a cursed month for Bangladesh?

Police fired rubber bullets and tear gas canisters at Dhaka University students following an incident during a football match, where Army personal assaulted three students. Police vehicles with water cannons patrolled the campus, firing tear gas canisters and hot water at the demonstrators. Over 130 students and several policemen were injured in the confrontations. The acting vice chancellor of the university, AFM Yusuf Haider, and the proctor Aka Firowz Ahmed were also injured in police action that lasted the whole night.

Thousands of students rallied last night demanding removal of an army camp from the campus and an apology from the Army for beating up students. The students also called strike at Dhaka University for an indefinite period to protest this inhuman behaviour.

This morning, students started protesting again with only two justifiable demands - apology and removal of Army camp from the campus.

Why is August? Why the Army or any anther forces holding weapons and grenades do not resist them from attacking the innocents in August?

If the students are willing to remain calm only if the authority meets two demands, why delay?

It is the culprits’ good luck that the students did not ask the Army to hand over the blamed ones to them.
